How to cut a watermelon

You can decide to cut it without the rind or with the rind. Cutting without the rind is usually best when cutting into cubes and sticks or when you want to make some watermelon juice, slushy or Popsicles.

Cutting with the rind intact works for triangles and slices. However choose whichever works best for you.

Cut it into slices

  • First you need to wash the watermelon thoroughly, then wipe it dry with a lint free cloth or paper towel.
  • Place the watermelon sideways on the chopping board, you can cut off the tips. I usually skip that part. Cut it into two equal halves by slicing right down the middle.
  • If you intend to remove the rind, place fruit cut face down on the chopping board, slice off the rind from top to bottom making sure to go as deep as the rind. Skip this step of your are not slicing off the rind.
  • Instead cut into disks and cut into desired shapes see the following methods.
